Jason is an Ethereal Artificial Mage, and the older brother of Diane.
Appearance[]
While he was captive at the Beacon of Hope, Jason was in his late teens. He was dressed in rags and wore a lessathi collar around his neck to restrict his magic. He had short blond hair, an unimpressive overall physique, and a more mature look in his eyes than one would expect from a boy of his age.[1]
Personality[]
Jason believes that being overly trustful only leads to inevitable betrayal. Diane claims that he's never trusted anyone in his life, especially lessathi. The only exceptions are Diane and Meridith. Even if the world betrayed them, he promised he would stay true to his sister. On the other hand, he sees Meridith as a means to an end, as his key to the heart of lessathi affairs. [1]
History[]
Beacon of Hope[]
Jason and his younger sister, Diane, were born as orphaned, Varathian children. When the lessathi of the Beacon of Hope learned that they were Ethereals, they were taken in as experimental subjects. There, magical circuits were injected into their bodies in a painful, risky procedure. The two of them were among the few successful experiments.[2] As powerful artificial mages, they were recruited into the lessathi's elite bodyguard. Before they were assigned, Jason promised Diane that he would stay true to her to the end, even if the world betrayed them.[1]
During his work, he rarely exchanged words with the lessathi that he escorted on a regular basis. The only one he acknowledged was Meridith, the second-in-command whom he believed had the potential to change the lessathi world for the better. Although Both Jason and Diane had been promoted, they were still kept in cells at the Beacon, and dressed in rags and collars that restricted their magic use. He and Diane made it their goal to be free of this nightmare, to live the rest of their lives in peace with Kate, Diane's best friend at the Beacon.[1]
Four years after their assignment as bodyguards, the Beacon of Hope shut down due the loss of funding for the lack of results. Kate and the rest of the reject children were teleported into the wilderness and left to die. Jason and Diane continued to support Meridith, who later became the leader of the lessathi after the death of the previous leader, Lord Heksol.[2]
Abilities[]
Jason has magical capabilities as an artificial mage. It is unknown what they are, but as an ethereal, he would be incredibly powerful.
