Kate is one of the main characters and protagonists in Magium. She is an artificial mage thanks to experiments conducted at the Beacon of Hope. She is an elementalist who specializes in ice magic.
Appearance[]
Kate has a slim and tall figure, with long black hair, fair skin, usually a serious look in her face. Based on the book's path, she could also have a light burn scar on the left side of her face, although it's mentioned that it appears similar to a tattoo and compliments her feral beauty[1]. She usually wears leather pants, a long sleeved white blouse and a green, hooded cloak.[2]
Personality[]
Kate has an introverted, cold, and distrustful nature as a result of her childhood at the Beacon of Hope, having been regarded as a banshee by most people for the past ten years. She is often in disbelief at the realization that a person does not have harmful intentions toward her.[3] To those that she trusts, Kate is loyal and does not hesitate to defend them. She has no inclinations against killing others if it means she can protect herself of those close to her.[4]
History[]
Kate was born an orphan in Varathia and taken to the Beacon of Hope, where she was experimented on by Lessathi to develop magical abilities. There she befriended Diane, an ethereal girl who had responded favorably to the Beacon experiments. At the time the Beacon was shut down, she was considered a reject of the experiments, being only capable of conjuring snowflakes,. When the program ended, Kate was teleported to the wilderness on another continent at the age of twelve, with nothing to her name but the clothes on her back and a few knives. Early on, she attempted to search for the other orphans, but found them all dead, and could do nothing but offer them an honorable burial. Upon reaching civilization, she was seen as a banshee and a monster by society. Luckily, her magical abilities developed, and she was able to fend for herself for ten years as an artificial mage.[3]
When the Magium tournament was announced, she leapt at the chance to return to Varathia in search of Diane, who she believes is still held prisoner by the lessathi, and forced to act as their bodyguard.[3]
Abilities[]
Ice Magic[]
Kate is very skilled in ice magic, which is considered to be an unconventional form of elemental magic. When she was young, she was considered to be reject as an artificial mage where she could barely conjure a snowflake, but later her magical power had increased considerably over time. She mostly conjures and launches icicles to attack, and creates ice domes to defend, but is also capable of making hand-held weapons such as daggers and swords from ice, as well as arm-mounted shields. She can create a large ice dragon given enough time. She also has the ability to freeze large areas almost instantly, but she can't unfreeze the frozen area.[5]
Aura Manipulation Technique[]
It seems Kate has a natural affinity for aura manipulation since she can learn to do it in less than a day. She can now 'glue' her weapons to her hand using her aura, as well as cancel some aura manipulation techniques.[6]
Suggestion Spell:[]
a spell that insert an idea inside the target's head, and make them think they were the one that came up with it. This spell covers a pretty large area, but can only be cast about two times a day, and it doesn’t last for more than a few hours. This spell won't work if the target have a set destination inside their head and able to visualize it clearly, not just simply a general direction.[7]
