Rose is a main character and protagonist in Magium.
Appearance[]
Rose has a long auburn hair, a thin waist and a warm smile with soft and feminine facial features, including light-brown eyes that radiates kindness. She usually wears an auburn dress that matches her hair and carries a bag of herbs. She appears to be somewhere in mid twenties. She is mentioned to be incredibly beautiful by Barry.[1] She also has larger breasts than Kate according to Barry.[2]
Personality[]
Rose has a playful, outgoing personality, and is a kind-hearted woman who tries her best at helping people within her capability. From childhood, she took an interest in herbology, and in the current state of her hometown, she often volunteers to search for herbs outside the city to help the sick, knowing clearly that she could be endangering her life at any moment.[3]
History[]
Rose is a Varathian local from the harbor city of Thilias near the southern coast.[4] Growing up in Varathian society, she was taught the importance of slavery as an integral part of their social class system. Even so, Rose struggled to convince herself of its morality. When she was nineteen, a runaway slave girl approached her in an alleyway and grabbed her hands, begging for her help. Rose pulled her hands away to wipe her own tears, before gently taking the slave's hands in her own and bringing the girl's palms together. Forcibly smiling and near tears, she told the slave to take pride in her status as an integral part of society. The girl, screaming, tried to pry herself free, but in her weakened state, could not escape. Eventually, her master arrived to tear her away from Rose's released grasp. Seeing her on the verge of crying, he complemented Rose on her morality. She told him she had only done what was right, and watched as the nobleman dragged the slave away. Rose was left traumatized by the memory.[5]
Rose was later married to Enrique for a few years, until they both agreed to divorce, as he was never the type of man to stay tied down to one woman. After their separation, he promised to never remarry or love another woman as much as he had her, and occasionally supports her financially. She currently lives a modest life in their old home with her two younger siblings, Kevin and Suzie, both of whom she took under her care after the death of their sickly father in the previous year.[6]
Having studied herbology from a young age, Rose volunteers at a local hospital in the Beggar's district. She often leaves the city to gather herbs in aid of those suffering from Oildrip, a sickness that has grown in prominence since the death of Thilias' high priest a few months prior.[2] It was during these herb-gathering trips that she befriended Elaria, a female deer, after curing the sickness of her son, Molan. Since the recent death of Elaria's husband in the war between Thilias and the animals, Rose cut contact with them in her guilt as a human.[2]
Abilities[]
Herbalist[]
Rose has a considerable knowledge as a herbalist, as she studied about plant from a young age and later about herbal medicine.[2]
Time Weaver[]
As a time weaver, Rose is immune to all time-affecting spells,[2] and her body cannot permanently die before she finishes delivering the prophecy, as time will automatically rewind to a point where she is safe enough to escape from peril.[5] This effect does not trigger if Rose dies in such a way where her body still lives, even if it is no longer her soul inhabiting it. This technicality is what makes it possible for Rose to be killed and resurrected as a revenant.
She also managed to reverse time unintentionally when her group was annihilated by Arraka.[3] When linked with the Magium, she can freeze time skillfully and even slow down time.[5] Later, she managed to freeze time for a half minute while also unfreeze Barry's group from time after enough practice even without being linked to the Magium.[7] At uncertain times, she could get a premonition when there is a danger nearing her or people she holds dear. The premonition came as a result of Rose having a better grasp of her time powers.[8]
